Born and raised in southern California. Self taught artist, Kelsey Valencia, is currently based in Boulder, CO. While Valencia is still in the early phases of her art career, her unique ability to bring her youthful imagination to life in her digital artwork has earned her recognition on various social media platforms. Valencia is currently studying and training alongside the guidance of artist and visual arts instructor, Corrina Espinosa, at the University of Colorado Boulder. Valencia’s artwork is greatly inspired by the urban culture that runs predominantly in the streets of Los Angeles. She has also previously stated that she is a fan of street artist, Banksy, and is influenced by his artwork, as well.
Through digital illustration and photography, Valencia aims to capture the dynamic and free-spirited characteristics of Generation Z and it’s contribution to contemporary art. Unlike other mainstream artists, she aspires for her artwork to be open to interpretation and make the public think about what holds value to them in this day and age.
Valencia has expressed interest in progressing her perception as a visual artist, from two-dimensional art to three-dimensional art, in the future. She has also revealed an interest in pursuing an MFA in Experience Design from the University of Colorado Boulder to help further her training. She looks forward to creating an immersive experience for public audiences where her creative vision has an impact on their senses, body, mind, and spirit. A variety of Valencia’s most recent digital artwork projects will be showcased at a to be determined gallery in Denver, CO coming May 2020.
